NASA’s first global map of rainfall and snowfall

Last year, on 27 February, NASA and JAXA jointly launched the Global Precipitation Measurement Mission core observatory satellite. The observatory means to combine precipitation data from 12 satellites into a single, comprehensive map. EUMETSAT contributes to the mission with data from the Metop satellites.

The first global rainfall and snowfall map was released in February 2015. This mission will be particularly useful to track the movements of fresh water on Earth.
